Lake Havasu City is young by most historic standards. It has only been incorporated since 1978, though the planned community that sprouted out of the desert began in 1963. With more than 35 years behind it, the little oasis has become a booming town. Lake Havasu City receives its name from the 45-mile long lake it sits alongside - Lake Havasu - which was created by the building of the Parker Dam in 1938 and is now a magnet for boating, fishing and every other form of water sport imaginable.
